Tenebrae/Maundy Thursday
Tenebrae/Maundy Thursday Service will be held on April 17 at 7:30pm in the Sanctuary. “Tenebrae” is Latin for “darkness” or “shadows,” reflecting the darkness that came over the life of Christ in Jerusalem during Holy Week.
- The Tenenbrae/Maundy Thursday service begins with the church in candlelight, with candles representing the disciples and followers of Christ.
- Dramatic readings of “The Journey to the Cross” will be shared as candles are gradually extinguished, symbolizing the disciples’ abandonment of Jesus.
- A white Christ candle represents Jesus, and it is removed after all the readings to represent Christ’s days in the tomb.
- Before the service concludes, the Christ candle is returned, offering a symbol of resurrection hope.
- The service ends in silence, allowing for reflection on the crucifixion story.
